Table Top Material Properties
HPL (High Pressure Laminate) is a flat panel, based on thermosetting resins, homogeneously reinforced with wood based fibers and manufactured under high pressure and at high temperatures.
Gloster uses the architectural grade of HPL (Trespa Meteon) for our table tops. This grade of HPL is UV resistant and extremely weather resistant. Neither sun, rain (including acid rain) nor moisture have any effect on the material's surface or core. Table tops are not affected by moisture and are not susceptible to weathering, mold or rot.
The smooth panel has a pore free surface structure, ensuring that practically no dirt accumulates. Whatever the color of the surface however, the edge of the table top is always black.
Cleaning Table Top
The only maintenance required for HPL is regular wiping with clean cloth and warm, diluted, neutral detergent to remove surface spillages.
Spillages of wine, coffee, ketchup, oils and acidic substances such as vinegar should always be wiped clean immediately.
Bottom Frame Material Properties
Aluminum is a light and tough metal with an excellent strength to weight ratio and corrosion resistance - making it an ideal material for outdoor furniture.
The corrosion resistance of Gloster's aluminum furniture is enhanced by pre-treating the aluminum extrusions with a chrome conversion coating that deposits a thin layer of chrome on the surface. The treated frame is subsequently coated with an electro-statically applied, powder coat finish. The electro-static application method ensures 100% coverage of the metal's surface area and provides a consistent and tough finish that far exceeds other conventional paint finishes. The resulting finish is knock and scratch resistant, impervious to moisture, highly resistant to corrosion and easy to clean.
Gloster Metal Cleaner
- 25oz / 750ml plastic bottle with trigger-action head. Water-based formula - both non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Cleans and restores the new look of metal furniture. For use on anodized and powder-coated aluminum. Each bottle is supplied complete with a special applicator pad.
The chrome conversion coating under the powder coat enhances the longevity of the furniture by ensuring scratches that penetrate the powder coat do not cause accelerated corrosion - in particular when used in marine or similarly aggressive environments. Minor scratches will not have a significant effect on the longevity of the furniture - nevertheless these can be repaired using paint touch up kits available from car accessory shops.
